Evi Yuli Ana, an English student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus), achieved an astounding feat at the 2024 Chess Olympics hosted in Budapest, Hungary. Evi, representing the Women’s Indonesian Team, managed to showcase her impressive wits by earning the highest points.
Evi managed to gather a total of 8.5 points out of 11 matches, with 7 wins, 3 draws, and a loss. For her astounding performance, Evi earned the title of Women’s FIDE Master (WFM). The Chess Olympic was participated by 193 teams in the Open Section category and 181 teams in the Women’s Squad category. With this many players, Evi's accomplishments became among the most apparent at the event.
“It is a pleasure to give my all for my country. I truly am grateful for all support provided by various parties, including Udinus and my coaches who motivated me to do intensive training,” Evi Yuli Ana uttered in her interview.
During the selection process, Evi claimed that the challenges were strict on the national level. She said the selection was difficult, as it involved talented female chess players across the nation. Thanks to her intensive training at the training center, Eva succeeded in the selection.
“I was grateful for being chosen to represent the National Team. My current goal is to become a grand master, and I will do whatever it takes to accomplish this,” she explained.
Pride and Appreciation
As the ace of her team, Evi was expected to earn the most points during her matches. With 8.5 points earned in 11 games, Evi proved her worth as a consistent and tough player. Not only that, Evi also expressed her joy for her contributions to the country.
Dr. Kusni Ingsih, MM., the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs at Udinus, expressed her pride in the accomplishment at an international event. Furthermore, Kusni also appreciated Evi’s dedication to succeeding in the national selection procession and making a name for both Indonesia and Udinus on an international level. Moreover, Kusni hoped for the accomplishment achieved by Evi to motivate other students to succeed both academically and non-academically.
“Evi is among students excelling in sports in addition to academic activities. Her achievements at the Chess Olympics are a token of pride for Udinus. She has undergone a strict selection process. Her intensive training shows Evi’s commitment and dedication to achieve this feat,” Kusni said.
The 2024 Chess Olympics was hosted by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), and it is among the most prestigious chess competitions on the globe. Evi Yuli Ana is currently gazing upon her future through optimistic lenses, determined to further hone her skills in order to reach the level of Grand Master.
