Tatagh Herawan Santoso – Electrical Engineering Student at Udinus
In the current era of technological advancements and Artificial Intelligence (AI), there are many jobs or professions that will inevitably be taken over by AI. However, according to Tatagh Herawan Santoso—an Electrical Engineering student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus)—, the Field of Electrical Engineering still had a relatively large prospect, and would not be taken over by AI anytime soon.
On campus, Tatagh, a student of the 2022 cohort, is active in various student organizations, namely, the Electrical Engineering Student Association (HMTE) and the Dinus Robotic Club. Recently, Tatgh also participated in the Student Creativity Program (PKM) using his team’s innovation, namely, the Portable Karamba Floating Net.
“The Portable Karamba Floating Net is an innovation dedicated to fish farmers, equipped with the Internet of Things (IoT). It uses efficiency and sustainability as its foundational aspects. This net offers modern solutions to the problems surrounding fishery,” he explained.
During the development of this device, Tatagh was in charge of electrical and mechanical aspects. This encompasses various important aspects, including electrical, mechanical, and the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT).
“My main tasks were to design and implement safe and efficient electrical systems so that the device can be fully operational. In addition, I was also involved in creating the frameworks of this device, which encompass mechanical structures per the function and the aims of this device,” he explained.
“The process also involves material selection, component crafting, and ensuring stability and durability under various operational conditions,” he added.
Furthermore, he uttered that in the IoT aspect, he was charged to program the device so it could connect and communicate wirelessly, allowing the device to be controlled and monitored from a certain distance.
The Importance of Understanding IoT
As an Electrical Engineering Student, Tatagh stated that it was important to understand IoT in the current era of technological advancements. This is because IoT has changed the ways various industries work by connecting a physical device to a digital network.
“For example, in the sector of automation, IoT allows electrical systems to function smartly and automatically with little to no human intervention. The importance of understanding the integration between IoT and electrical engineering is not to be ignored, as modern electrical systems are often connected with sensors and devices with access to the internet,” he uttered.
This integration not only improves efficiency and productivity but also allows monitoring, managing better energy, and controlling the systems automatically. Knowing the importance of understanding IoT, Tatagh encouraged his fellow students to be open to the rapidly advancing technology.
“Electrical Engineering students excelling at IoT will have much wider opportunities in the industry, especially in various sectors, including automation, renewable energy, and smart technology,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
