36 athletes from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) earned medals at the National Sports Week (PON) XX1 Aceh-North Sumatera 2024. At the event, the athletes from Udinus represented their respective contingents from September 8th to 20th, 2024.

Those medals consist of 10 gold medals, 18 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals. The medals were earned from various sports branches, including, volleyball, taekwondo, table tennis, wall climbing, shooting, basketball, and chess.

Megawati Hangestri, a Postgraduate Management Student at Udinus who was also among the athletes, expressed her gratitude to the campus on behalf of all the athletes. She was proud of her gold medal attained for the East Java contingent, as well as Udinus.

“Hopefully, this is not the last time I could garner medals, which can also serve as a medium to motivate other athletes at Udinus to do better on national and international levels,” she stated. According to her, the campus also provided her with academic support to make her more focused on training and pursuing her studies.

Lasting for 13 days, the 2024 National Sports Week was the first time it was held in two provinces at once. Per the latest data, in all 37 sports branches, 12,919 athletes were participating in the event. These athletes came from 39 different contingents in Indonesia, including the Capital of Nusantara (IKN).

Dr. Kusni Ingsih, the Vice Chancellor III of Academic Affairs at Udinus, expressed her pride in the accomplishments attained by the athletes. According to data, Udinus is among the private universities in Central Java that sent the most athletes, with a total of 41 athletes.

“This data proves that Udinus is supportive of its athletes when it comes to their non-academic talents. Since this Sports Week is a national competition, all the athletes who attained will be awarded with scholarships,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Dok. Kemahasiswaan Udinus)
