The Economics and Business Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) recently hosted a Public Lecture as a part of the ‘International Guest Lecture Series.’ It employed the ‘Transformational Entrepreneurship in the Information Era’ as its theme, with 40 participants attending it. The lecture took place in the Theater Auditorium located on the sixth floor of the I building at Udinus on Tuesday, October 31st, 2024.
The public lecture was mainly attended by students of the International Undergraduate Management Class Program at Udinus. It featured academic and practical speakers, including Prof. Vincent Didiek, W.A., MBA., Ph.D., a Professor in Digital Marketing, and Feranita, MBA, M.Res., Ph.D., a Senior Advisor at Asian Legacies.
Dr. Retno Indah Hernawati, S.E., M.Si., the Dean of the Economics and Business Faculty at Udinus, was also present to deliver an opening speech. On that occasion, she stated the importance of the public lecture, as it featured a Guest Lecturer from overseas to facilitate students of the international class.
“The International class is an attempt by the Economics and Business Faculty at Udinus to introduce economic and business knowledge on an international scale. In addition to the regular lectures provided in classrooms, this public lecture also serves as a step from Udinus in giving a new perspective to students,” she explained.
The public lecture is expected to inspire students, particularly in developing businesses related to the current age of technological advancements.

Perspective from An Academician and Practitioner
From an academic viewpoint, Prof. Vincent introduced students to the latest situation of e-commerce in Indonesia, which currently lies at its greatest heights. He explained that the abundant users of smartphones and the internet heavily impacted the development of the e-commerce sector.
“A penetration from the Internet plays a role in allowing enterprises to develop their own e-commerce so that these enterprises could reach a wide range of customers. Online shopping also poses a challenge, requiring innovations to be made in digital marketing strategy,” he explained.

After that, Feranita, from a practical perspective, discussed the development of family businesses in the information era. Family businesses are phenomena occurring in every part of this globe, starting from small enterprises to world-class enterprises, such as Samsung and Walmart.
She also gave examples of family business management by showing a case study of the success of a company under the name of Sidomuncul. According to her, harmony was the most important aspect of achieving success as a family business in Asia.
“A business must also innovate and adapt to the era. Additionally, it must also be noted that the success of a family business doesn’t come instantly. It is contrary, as it requires dedication and skills to be inherited by the next generation,” Feranita emphasized. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus)
