Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) through its English Department, strengthened its relationship with the Humboldt University of Berlin. The partnership was marked with an agreement to improve the research quality of both institutions.

Prior to this, the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has also been conducted in the B building at Udinus on November 21st, 2024. The agreement was signed by Dr. Sunardi S.S., M.Pd., the Head of the English Department at Udinus, and Dr. Jozina Vander Klok., a Postdoctoral Researcher from the Humboldt University of Berlin. The academic community and staff members of the English Department were also present to witness the agreement.

Dr. Sunardi explained that there had previously been a harmonious relationship between Udinus and the Humboldt University of Berlin. The partnership was often embodied in the form of seminars and public lectures. The partnership also includes the institutional development of Udinus to make the campus more competitive in the global university market.

“One of these seminars was a workshop on ELAN software and Flex to analyze linguistic data. This software also plays a role in improving the quality of our academicians and lecturers,” he explained.

Dr. Sunardi added that the partnership would last from 2024 to 2025. It does not only scope academic aspects, but it will also include international research involving both lecturers and students.

“For example, recently, we developed a braille system for International Phonetics Alphabet (IPA) Chart Assistive Learning Media (I-CAN). This research also serves as a learning medium for blind students in attending the Phonetics and Phonology class,” Dr. Sunardi uttered.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jozina Vander Klok, a Postdoctoral Researcher from the Humboldt University of Berlin, also welcomed the agreement of the partnership with open arms. Furthermore, Dr. Klok also appreciated the performance of students in the English Department for being passionate about conducting the research.

“We are so grateful to have a research partner in linguistics in Indonesia. Hopefully, this partnership can run well, with both parties benefitting each other,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Dok. Humas FIB)
