It is important for the young generation to wisely use the digital media. To gain awareness concerning this importance, Communication Science students at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) hosted a campaign. The campaign was entitled the ‘Talk Show Campaign Digital Warriors,’ and it was hosted on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024 at the Indonesian Institute High School Semarang.

The talk show was participated by 120 tenth graders from the Indonesian Institute High School Semarang. This event was also an output of the Public Relations class taken by the Communication Science Students.

Ika Safira Syahrani, the head of the committee of the event, explained that the campaign employed the theme of ‘Conduct Your Ethics, Wisely Use the Media.’ This event aimed to encourage high school students to use digital media wisely and ethically. On the same occasion, Ika was also one of the speakers featured at the event.

“As the title suggests, Digital Warriors, we want to encourage the young generation to be a warrior or hero in using and enforcing the ethics of using the digital media. Good ethics of social media encompasses three different aspects, including following accounts wisely, posting content appropriately, and commenting respectfully,” Ika, a student in the class of 2022, explained.

The Importance of Good of Ethics

The talk show also features another speaker, Devi Purnamasari, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., a lecturer in the Communication Science Department at Udinus. During her presentation, she emphasized the importance of understanding the ethics of using digital media. This is because ethics will prevent anyone from engaging in unnecessary conflicts.

“Ethics will also influence our reputation, as every activity we do in the digital media can be seen by many people, including colleagues, family, and superiors. By upholding ethics, we will be able to maintain our good image, which is something we cannot do by violating ethics,” Devi emphasized.

A Warm Welcome from the Vice Principal

At the campaign, Teguh Prakoso, S.Pd., the Vice Principal of Curriculum Affairs at the Indonesian Institute High School Semarang, welcomed the event with open arms. According to him, the event was an effective attempt in encouraging high school students to the digital media more wisely and ethically.

“The Indonesian Institute High School Semarang is very welcoming to the talk show initiated by students from Udinus. Hopefully, our tenth graders can utilize this opportunity to garner new knowledge and insight,” the vice principal uttered.

Meanwhile, one of the students, Reza Pahlevi stated that the talk show was insightful. He also mentioned that he had learned much from the talk show concerning the proper use of social media.

“The presentation was understandable and insightful at least to me. Hopefully, through this talk show, I will be able to use social media in a more ethical way,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus
