Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) through its taekwondo athletes became the grand champion at the 2024 2nd East Java Police Department Keluarga Besar Putra Putri Taekwondo Championship. These athletes managed to earn 12 medals at the championship, which took place at the Futsal Sports Building of ITS Surabaya, East Java, from November 9 to 10, 2024.
The 2024 KBPP Championship was participated by seven provinces with a total of 1,534 participants, which was immensely larger than last year, namely, 754 participants. In 2025, this championship will be projected as the foundation of a national championship.
At the championship, Udinus sent its athletes to compete against more than 1,534 other participants from seven different provinces or regions in Indonesia. According to data provided by the organizer, this year’s championship saw a major improvement in the number of participants, with the previous year’s year being 754 competing athletes.
Rama Eka Saputra, the Chief of the Taekwondo Unit at Udinus, explained that Udinus managed to garner 8 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and a bronze medal. These medals were collected from the Kyorugi and Poomsae classes. Through this achievement, the athletes from Udinus successfully earned the Rotating Trophy and the Grand Champion Trophy.
“We are proud of these accomplishments, as it shows that Udinus can prove its worth in taekwondo. Through our routine training and support from our coaches and the academic community at Udinus, we hope to keep up with these accomplishments and improve them,” he explained.
In the Kyorugi category, one of the gold medals was garnered by Dwita Isriyan Kusumawati, a Postgraduate Management student at Udinus, for the U73 kg class. In the same category, three Communication Science Students at Udinus also managed to earn gold medals. Those students were Muhammad Feranda Izza for the U54 kg class, Ariqfallah Rasyid Indrayana for the U63 kg class, and Hafiz Fadilah Setiawan for the U58 kg class.
In the same category, several Management students at Udinus also secured numerous medals, including Fahad Abdur Rahman with his gold medal for the U74 kg class, Davin Surya Sabian with his silver medal for the U53 kg class, and Ajeng Zhika Revalina for the U49 kg class. Additionally, a silver medal was also grasped by Daffa Fauzan, a Communication Science student at Udinus, for the U68 kg class.
Meanwhile, in the Individual Poomsae category, Angela Khansa Nathania, a Management student at Udinus, managed to get a gold medal for the Women’s Individual class. In the Men’s Individual class, Dwi Devangga, an Electrical Engineering student at Udinus, also got the bronze medal. Last but not least, Dwi Devangga and Najwa Lya Putri Rahmadhani, a Communication Science student at Udinus, managed to earn the gold medal in the Poomsae Pair category.
Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau at Udinus, also expressed his pride for the medals accomplished by the taekwondo athletes who have successfully attained the grand champion predicate. He revealed that there were three of those athletes chosen as the best national athletes at the championship, namely, Ariqfallah Rasyid Indrayana as the Best Men’s Senior Athlete, Dwita Isriyan Kusumawati as the Best Women’s Senior Athlete, and Angela Khansa Nathania as the Best Women’s Poomsae Senior Athlete.
