The technological advancement brings big impacts to our daily lives, including the importance of maintaining the security of our digital identity to prevent it from being abused. Recently, a workshop hosted by Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) discussed this topic. It was held at Nidaul Hikmah Islamic Elementary School, Salatiga.
The workshop was entitled ‘The Importance of Securing Our Digital Identity.’ It involved 50 participants, including teachers and students’ parents, all of which were enthusiastic in listening to the workshop.
As cited from Suara Peristiwa.id., Dr. Agus Triyono, M.Si., a lecturer from Udinus who was also a speaker at the workshop, emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about protecting personal data in the digital era. According to Agus, identity cards, like driving licenses, ID cards, or family registers that are uploaded and sent to instant message services are vulnerable to being abused by malicious parties.
“Personal data that we normally send on digital platforms are very sensitive. If we did not keep it properly, there would be a high chance that our data could be abused. Therefore, we need to protect our personal data,” Agus uttered.
He also appealed to the audience to be careful in using digital devices. Agus also suggested changing the password of our accounts every six months. In addition to changing passwords, users must also utilize two-factor authentication. Even though it’s often seen as trivial, this step will allow users to effectively protect their data from hackers. At the workshops, participants also got the moment to share their experiences and learn digital literacy.
“This education is important, as using digital technology is essentially integral in our lives,” revealed Agus.
Apart from Dr. Agus, Candra Yduha Satri, M.I.Kom., and Nadia Itona, M.Si. were also featured as speakers. On that occasion, both of them gave several tips on how to protect family digital security. They also encouraged the participants to be more skeptical of any information on the internet by filtering it before spreading the information.
With this workshop involving faculty members, Udinus once again showed its role as an institution with a commitment to educating the public with digital literacy. Hopefully, through this workshop, teachers and students’ parents will be able to face the challenges of digital security, allowing them to protect themselves and their families from the dangerous risks of the internet.
