A triumphant victory once again garnered by a student from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) at the Coffee Mixology Competition. At the competition, Salma Julinda Rizma, a Hotel Management student at Udinus, managed to win third place.
The competition was participated by 25 participants. It was hosted by Royal Malioboro by Aston and Premium Syrup, on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The event was a platform for baristas and coffee experts to competitively prove their skills through their innovative, creative, and interesting coffee.
On that occasion, Salma served a coffee product, which she named ‘Nastar Coffee.’ The coffee was inspired by the ‘Nastar’ cake, which is an Indonesian cake filled with pineapple jam. Nastar itself has become an iconic food among Indonesian people for a while now. However, Salma made the drink in such a unique way to provide a distinct sensation.
“For the characteristics, I decided to make it lean toward the sweet flavour of vanilla, then I also added some hint flavour from pineapple and other spices. Furthermore, I also put some creamy flavour from whipped cream and aromatic flavor from cinnamon,” she explained.
Salma revealed that the judges were intrigued by the coffee she made, as her coffee creation matched the concept of the event. The combination of nastar and coffee was perfectly balanced, with neither of them dominant. Salma also stated that she did not expect to make a name for her campus on a national level.
“During the mixing process before judges, there was one technique that made me nervous. Despite having lost my hope, I tried to ignore the mistakes I made, and stayed confident with other techniques and methods,” she uttered.
On a different occasion, Dr. Neni Kurniawati, S.S., M.Hum., the Head of the Hotel Management Department expressed her pride to Salma for her astounding performance at the competition. Dr. Neni revealed that the competition aligned with one of the concentration fields in the Hotel Management Department.
“Hopefully, this accomplishment can serve as a stepping stone for Salma to compete in other contests and achieve better results. Furthermore, Salma’s achievement can also motivate her fellow Hotel Management students to be accomplished,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris Foto: Dok. Salma)
