As a Media Officer at the Financial Service Authority (OJK) of East Java, Samuel: Matured Thinking Processes Are Important!

The career of an Alumnus of the Visual Communication Design Department (Visual and Communication Design) at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) Kediri, Samuel Adi Priono, at the Financial Service Authority (OJK) of East Java started off in November 2024. At the OJK of East Java, Samuel worked as a Media Officer, being responsible for overseeing communication media for the OJK of East Java.

“The communication media themselves encompass many things, including internet media in the form of social media (Instagram), conventional media (printed publications), direct meetings, and many more. From these media, I am assigned to various tasks, including designing social media, video editing, design publishing, etc.,” he explained.

According to Samuel, the easiest form of communication is through visual means. For this specific reason, Samuel was motivated to pursue his current career. “At my workplace, I get to finally put my expertise and hobby to good use,” he continued.

Samuel also highlighted the importance of OJK amidst all financial issues in the digital era, including online loans, investments, and new currencies that had been trusted by the OJK as the supervisor and regulator.

Prior to his career at the OJK of East Java, Samuel had been a freelance worker at the OJK of Kediri for roughly eight years. In addition, he also once worked as a designer at an advertising company for three years and as a front-end programmer at a software house company.

Challenges and Implementation of Knowledge

As a designer with the standard of aesthetic, Samuel revealed that his biggest challenge yet was differences in perception, particularly in creating a design with other parties, which often make Samuel revise the designs for multiple times.

Nonetheless, Samuel admitted that the knowledge he learned at Udinus was highly useful in his career. This is because methodology and perspective of art through an academic perspective helped him understand matured thinking processes in working on a design.

“The correct process makes our works more effective in conveying a certain message, Moreover, the field of Visual Communication Design involves applied knowledge that can bring benefits. The Visual Communication Design at Udinus does not only introduce the whole field through theoretical lenses but also its practical implementation. In addition, the faculty members within the department are also collaborative, inspirational, and interesting,” he admitted.

Samuel, who are also fond of reading, also advised students to be open to more ideas in addition to what they specialize and generalize in.

“Having a specialization in certain fields is indeed a good thing. However, one must also expand their experiences and perceptions with other knowledge that could potentially sustain their specializations,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
