Visitations to labs outside the campus are among the requirements of the Lab Management Course offered by the Environmental Health Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus). Recently, students in their junior year in the said department conducted a visit to a lab owned by a university in Semarang.

During their field trip, students were encouraged to learn how management works in the newest lab owned by Universitas Diponegoro (Undip). The lab has apparently become a destination, as it has been accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN).

Students were introduced to devices that may support their research, as well as how to test and analyze data using instruments to form new ideas for further research. It aims to provide them provisions for them to finish their theses.

A lecturer from the Health Science Faculty at Udinus, as well as the Person in Charge of this visitation and the Lab Management course, Dr. Adian Khoironi, S.T., M.Si., explained that the visit also encompassed tours to various aspects of the lab. The tour took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with the focus being the systematic structure of the lab

“The tour included phases, like Pre-Examination, Examination, and Post-Examination phases. The tour was also conducted to various excellence research groups at Undip, including C-Biore, Mer-C, Smarch, and others,” he uttered.

Not only a tour, students also learned about the instruments in the lab. The learning was done through a presentation, aiming to improve students’ knowledge. The learning materials were presented by lab experts.

“In every room of the lab, there were explanations from several lab workers, including analysts, researchers, and research assistants. On that occasion, students learned about instruments, and services, as well as ongoing and completed research projects,” Dr. Adian continued.

There were 32 students who participated in the visitation, with the majority of them being enthusiastic. Their enthusiasm was embodied through their questions. Not only that, students’ involvement in the discussion was also fairly excellent.

“Hopefully, students can understand more the field conditions from theories they had learned in the lab management course. They are also expected to understand practices, like processing tools, materials, waste, and others,” he concluded.

As additional information, the visitation was a routine event held by the Environmental Health Department to teach its students about how theories they learned on campus would be implemented at workplaces. (Humas Udinus/Penulis: Ika. Foto: Humas Udinus)
