The dynamics of the global research world keep developing as technology continues to modernize with the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and sustainable research. In response to this, the UPT (Technical Executive Constituent) of Library and Publishing at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (.Udinus) hosted a seminar themed “The 2025 Research Trends: Opportunities and Challenges for Students and Faculty Members”, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
The webinar was held online through the Zoom Meeting platform, and it was initiated by the Research and Development Division of the Library and Publishing Unit at Udinus. The webinar was participated by 187 participants consisting of Udinus students and students from other institutions.
During his opening speech, Aan Prabowo, S.hum., M.A., the Head of the Library and Publishing Unit at Udinus, stated that the webinar served as a response to the academic needs, particularly in facing the dynamics of research trends that quickly emerge. Students were encouraged to understand the directions of research development to design more innovative and relevant research.
“This webinar is our commitment to supporting the academic community in designing high-quality research, as well as improving the optimization of the utilization of scientific databases that have been provided by the university,” he revealed.
From an academic perspective, learning materials concerning the 2025 Research Trends were presented by Dr. Imang Dapit Pamungkas, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA., CIBA., the Secretary of the Research and Community Service Institute at Udinus. On that occasion, he highlighted the cruciality of academic preparedness in addressing research challenges. According to him, research is the framework of science, as well as the gear of industrial innovation and social solutions.
“The first step in starting research is by understanding relevant research trends, like AI, digital technology, digital economy, industry 4.0, renewable energy, biotechnology, and cybersecurity. In addition, researchers can also utilize Scopus and ScimagoJR to check journal reputations,” he explained.
The next topic concerned the utilization of academic databases. It was presented by Sururin Madhuna, a Product Trainer from iGroup Asia Pacific. He explained that students and faculty members at Udinus could use two databases, including Emerald and IEEE Computer Society Digital Library (CSDL)). This training aimed to improve the effectiveness of access, as well as the utilization of information resources in supporting the research process.
“These two databases that have been integrated with Udinus. By using these databases, one can improve the effectiveness of access and usage of digital information resources during the research process,” Suririn emphasized.
With this seminar, Udinus emphasized its position as an active institution in pushing the development of the research field in both national and international circles. Udinus also plays a role in forming an academic ecosystem with progressive and professional attributes. (Humas udinus/Penulis. Haris. Foro: Dok. UPT Perpustakaan & Percetakan Udinus)
