Since when he was a computer and network student in high school, an Informatics student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus), Aliffian Ilham Febriyana, had already understood the fundamental concept of IT, like the basics of computers, graphic designing, networks, and programming. However, he now understands that the realm of IT is much more dynamic and extensive.
“I see IT as a field that always challenges previously established knowledge and offers opportunities to learn new things. The urge to innovate, solve problems, and create value through technology is the main reason I pursue IT,” Alif stated.
During his college years, Alif became more invested in Informatics. In his third semester, he earned the opportunity to join a Featured Class, which focused on fundamental knowledge about course-based projects. A year later, in his fifth semester, he joined the Coding Workshop and was involved in various intriguing projects, such as a real-time tracking and monitoring system, as well as IoT research about attack detection.
In his sixth semester, Alif participated in a prestigious program, namely Garuda Ace 2.0. He was involved in collaborative research projects with students from other countries, with the research itself aiming to improve the performance of computer systems. This experience allows Alif to gain a practical understanding of how a system works.
“Currently, I’m pursuing two different fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and systems, as these two sectors have strong connections. This double focus allows me to see a bigger picture and develop holistic solutions, ensuring my learning process remains systematic and relevant to the needs of future industries,” he explained.
The Importance of IT in the Modern Era
According to Alif, born in Grobogan, learning IT in the digital era is crucial as the digital transformation of information technology is prominent. By understanding IT, one will not only be a consumer of technology but also an active contributor in creating solutions.
“In terms of career opportunities, the IT sector is among the gears that move the global economy. Work opportunities are endless and diverse, like software engineers, data scientists, and many more. Possessing IT skills means that you have a promising and relevant career path ahead of you,” he continued.
There are some essential skills for one to pursue the IT field, like a basic understanding of programming and the concept of IT, problem-solving abilities, stress and mental health management, and sustainable learning skills.
Alif keeps honing his skills by becoming a part of the Dian Nuswantoro Computer Club (DNCC), with himself being the leader of the club. According to him, this club is relevant to sustain his IT skills.
“My end goal is not only to earn a degree but also to actively contribute to the advancement of science and technology globally by conducting innovative and impactful research,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Penulis: Ika. Editor: Haris. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
