Communication Science Students from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) conducted an action to take care of the coastal ecosystem. This action was embodied in the form of an activity entitled ‘Relive’ on Sunday, December 17th, 2023 on the Coast of Tirang.

There were two main activities in Relive, including cleaning garbage off the coast and planting 300 mangrove seeds, with the aim to maintain the ecosystem residing within the coast and raising public awareness regarding the environmental sanitation at the coast located in Tambakrejo, Tugurejo Subdistrict, Semarang.

The head of the Committee of the activity, Dewa Ayu Putri Tesalonika, mentioned that Relive involved various internal and external parties.

“The event was participated by 100 people, consisting of students, delegations from student organizations, and the public. Additionally, this activity also featured representatives from the Genre Embassy and Denok of Semarang,” she explained.

Furthermore, she revealed that the activity served as an output of the Event Organizing (EO) course. The activity also received full support from a state-owned forestry company, namely Perhutani, to maintain the living environment. Dewa Ayu Putri Tesalonika hoped for this activity to be capable of raising public awareness in Semarang, not only as a living place but also as a region worth preserving.

“Hopefully, Relive will not be the last positive activity that could raise public awareness regarding environmental sanitation and concern, particularly at coast regions,” she hoped.

Dr. Rachmawati Zulfiningrum, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom, the Head of the Communication Science Department at Udinus, was also present and symbolically opened Relive through the handover of mangrove seeds to Dewa Ayu Putri Tesalonika, the Head of the Committee. During her greeting, Rachmawati expressed her utmost pride for this activity to be conducted by her students. Moreover, there were many parties involved in hosting Relive.

“This activity is indeed remarkable and crucial to prevent coastal abrasion. I could not be prouder of my students for hosting Relive as an attempt to maintain the balance of the ecosystem,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Humas Udinus)
