To pursue the creative industry as an animator takes experience and in-depth knowledge concerning these fields. Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) recently encouraged high school and college students to participate in a seminar entitled ‘Fazzio Inspiring Talk with Tanduk Putih & Amir Moci.’

The seminar was a product of a collaboration between the Animation Department at Udinus with Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing. It featured two experienced animators. Those two animators were Afa (the Author of Tanduk Putih) and Amir (the Author of Amir Moci). It was participated by 200 participants in the auditorium on the seventh floor of the H building, on Friday, May 31st, 2024.

The event was opened with a speech delivered by the Dean of the Computer Science Faculty. However, the speech was represented by Dr. Khafiizh Hastuti, M.Kom., (the Head of the Animation Department). She revealed that this talk show aimed to share experience and knowledge concerning creating effective animated content, particularly on social media and marketing.

“The aims of this event are inspired by the theme we present, namely, ‘Animation for Social Media and Marketing.’ The theme refers to the era where social media greatly contributes to the creativity of the young generation,” Khafiizh uttered.

Following that, Zaldiansyah Perdana (the Promotional Coordinator of Yamaha Indonesia Motor Mfg. DDS 3 of Central Java and Yogyakarta) also presented a speech. During his speech, Zaldiansyah stated that Yamaha Motor had tied collaboration with Udinus before this. It had been embodied in the form of Yamaha to University (Y2U). Furthermore, he also revealed that this talk show served as one of many ways to implement this collaboration.

“This collaboration is regarded as very good, as the world is currently giving opportunities to youths. Through this inspiring talk show, we hope for the event to inflict positive impacts upon the development of education, particularly within the animation and creative industry fields in Indonesia,” he uttered.

Keys to Success

The first topic was discussed by an animator at Amir Moci who was an alumnus of the Department of Animation at Udinus. He was Muhammad Amir Kohirudin. On that occasion, he shared his experience in using algorithms and audience as a key to success. By using these aspects, Amir could make short content, as well as pay attention to the current target market.

“To be a content creator, we must be able to utilize multiple platforms. By utilizing multiple platforms, our content can potentially ‘lure’ a whole new audience. It is also important to pay attention to the fanbase, as well as involve the audience in giving ideas,” Amir, an alumnus of the 2018 cohort, explained.

The second topic concerning Intellectual Property (IP) was discussed by Afa as a character animator at Tanduk Putih. Developing an IP starts with creating a storyboard to make an effective scene following the author’s plan. After that, one must also focus on processing technical animation by considering various aspects.

“The most important aspect in creating an IP is creating an iconic character design. Then, we also need to write a story with a distinctive characteristic for us to later further develop. It will also be more acceptable for the content to be developed for other products. For example, one of my products developed from an animation to a digital game and board game,” he uttered.
