New students of the Engineering Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) were introduced to various basic materials, particularly concerning Work Safety Procedures. The event was held on the third day of the 2024 Dinus Inside at the courtyard of the I Building on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024.
Ir. Amalia MT., IPM., ASEAN Eng., an Instructor from the Engineering Faculty, was present as the main speaker at the event. According to her, health and safety were the most prioritized aspects within a workplace. Amalia stated that this workshop concerning Work Safety Procedures was of great importance, as it would make students more cautious and proactive in prioritizing safety, particularly within laboratories.
“We want to ensure that our new students understand the risks that may happen on campus, as well as steps to prevent these risks,” Amalia uttered.
Furthermore, Amalia explained that students were expected to actively play a role in mitigating incidents, such as robberies and violations on campus. This act will allow the campus to be safer and more conducive.
“If you encounter such things, you must immediately report them to the P2K3. Students can act as witnesses so the campus can investigate the matters,” she added.
In addition to safety, Amalia emphasized the importance of maintaining physical health during their studies on campus, particularly when using gadgets or laptops. She advised the freshmen to keep their viewing distance at 20 feet or 6 meters after using phones or laptops to maintain their eyes’ health.
“Sitting positions are also important, as dangerous sitting positions can potentially damage our nerve systems and spines. It may not seem that important, but only a select few practice it. For that reason, I stand there to emphasize these important things,” Amalia explained.
With this workshop, students are expected not only to focus on academic matters but also their safety and health on campus.
As additional information, the Dinus Inside itself is a student orientation event for freshmen, with a total of 3,567 freshmen participating in the event.
