Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) once again hosted a public lecture as a part of the 2024 Campus Independent Entrepreneurship Program. At the lecture, Prof. Dr. Pulung Nurtantio Andono, S.T., M.Kom., the Vice Chancellor IV of Research and Partnership Affairs at Udinus, discussed the importance of courage and creativity in running a business.

The event was hosted on the third floor of the E building at Udinus. On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Pulung Nurtantio Andono, S.T., M.Kom., was the main speaker. The lecture was part of a bigger event, namely, Soft Opening of the 2024 Independent Entrepreneurship Program at Udinus. Prof. Pulung also taught students the main foundations of their successes in running businesses.

According to Prof. Pulung, the courage to take risks is an initial step every entrepreneur must take. He explained that in the business world, courage was among the most driving factors for entrepreneurs to gain support from investors. This courage also encompasses the ability to run a business during hard times.

“The most apparent thing in the eyes of investors is your persistence in keeping and developing your businesses. As per the WMK program policy, participants are allowed to directly meet their partners, stakeholders, and investors,” he highlighted.

In addition, the professor also explained that creativity was needed to claim glory, particularly in the digital era with its challenges. For that reason, Prof. Pulung encouraged students to think creatively and brace themselves to move out of their comfort zones, allowing them to create fresh and brand-new ideas.

“Creativity will emerge when we can create a challenging situation. The prime example of this is when we develop a culinary business, such as gado-gado. However, you must put some innovations in it, such as by using pesticide-free peanuts as an ingredient for your gado-gado, as well as adding an unconventional flavor to it. This kind of innovation will differentiate your businesses from your competitors,” he uttered.

Prof. Pulung also encouraged students to utilize various digital platforms as an effective promotion media. According to him, social media can be a good device to reach consumers quickly and extensively, allowing young entrepreneurs to keep creating creative and interesting promotional content.

“Good storytelling can increase the value of a product. Tell the customers how your businesses positively impact them and push a narrative to attract their emotions! This is a promotion strategy relevant in this day and age,” Prof. Pulung.

As a part of the 2024 Campus Independent Entrepreneurship Program, the public lecture was attended by 316 students from various departments at Udinus. As one of the Implementing Universities of this program, Udinus has the commitment to providing the students with comprehensive knowledge, including marketing strategy, financial management, and product development.
