A Japanese martial art known as ‘Karate’ is commonly practiced by men. However, Ainun Harahap Mardiyah Harahap, a student of the Health Science Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro, had been interested in this martial art since elementary school.

Ainun claimed that she had received a serious injury, but despite that, her determination to pursue karate had been burning inside her heart of hearts. According to her, karate athletes rely on the techniques used to claim victories over their opponents. “I once partially lost my eyesight due to a kick damaging my eye nerves. However, this injury did not prevent me from improving and being a token of pride to my parents,” Ainun uttered.

She has accomplished many achievements since her debut as a karate athlete, including her recent accomplishments at the Semarang 2018 Grandprix in the Women’s Single Kumite +50kg category. This success marked her first achievement as a college student. “I would gladly like to present a medal for our campus, as my skills and talent as a karate athlete could make a name for this campus at the regional level,” Ainun stated.

Ainun revealed that she had trained intensely for only two weeks to hone her techniques, and this intense training did not let her down. “The prayers given by my parents and friends led me to win first place in the women’s single category. A week prior to the competition, I focused on sparring with my friends at the karate unit. Surprisingly, the only thing I find difficult is that the time for training was too short,” Ainun, born on April 5, 1998, Seruway Aceh, revealed.

For the time being, Ainun aims to compete at the National Sports Week and make a name for Udinus in the upcoming competitions. She also hoped for the karate sports branch in Indonesia to improve to be better than it already is. “I will continue my training as there are indeed lots of things to be honed, like my techniques. If an athlete were easily satisfied, their skills will soon decrease, so it is important as an athlete to always strive to be better,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/lex/AT)
