“It takes courage, persistence, energy, and discipline, as well as knowledge regarding Indonesian women’s ethics to shape a woman into a part of the army,” uttered Second Lt. Chn (K) Priska Harmoni Nazareta, S.S, an alumna of the English Literature Study Program at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus).

Becoming a part of the army has always been a dream for Priska. She claimed that it took everything to achieve her dream as there were tons of things to learn prior to her entrance into the military, considering she is a woman. However, that did not extinguish her passion. As a matter of fact, she became cheered up to keep learning and extending her knowledge.

Upon graduating from college, Priska, born on June 21, 1995, kept utilizing the knowledge she earned on campus to enlist in the army; not only that, she also once underwent a military education at the Magelang Military Academy. Priska stated that English graduates were needed in various fields, one of which was the military. “It turns out that the military needs English graduates as the communicators of foreign affairs, including joint exercise,” Priska revealed.

She claimed that she was often asked to be a speaker in seminars and English classes in the army ever since she was inaugurated as the Second Lieutenant of the Transportation Corps in 2018. Priska utilized this opportunity to share the knowledge she gathered on campus. “I am often asked to be the English teacher for the soldiers who will undergo the Sesko test. This opportunity induced pride in me as I could apply the knowledge I gained on campus,” Priska said.

Priska, who graduated in 2017, currently holds the position of Warfare Communication and Military Media Section Officer at Denhudam XIII/Merdeka. She shared that she attained soft skills through the English Student Association (HMBI) as a student. Those soft skills encompassed teamwork and leadership skills, which she still implements in the army to this day.

According to her, the knowledge she gained on campus could serve as the key to a new beginning. Additionally, she also said that English graduates possess the opportunity to work in the military either as a Military Teacher or a Defense Attache. Moreover, she encouraged students passionate about the military to be diligent in learning new things and utilizing campus facilities to their fullest. “Be cheerful and do not concede, being persistent and expanding knowledge are necessities,” Priska concluded.
