The Economics and Business Faculty of Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) featured a speaker from Australia to discuss the patterns of international journals. The webinar entitled ‘Academic Writing’ was participated by hundreds of people through the Zoom Meeting platform on Monday, December 19th, 2022.

The international webinar employed the theme of ‘Revealing Patterns of Publishable Research for Reputable International Journal.’ It was participated by all students of the Economics and Business Faculty and participants from other countries, including Turkey, Oman, Bangladesh, and India.

At the event, Prof. Vincent Didiek Wiet Aryanto MBA, Ph.D. (the Dean of the Economics and Business Faculty) gave greetings to all participants. In addition, Juli Ratnawati, S.E., M.Si., (a faculty member of the Accounting Department) was also present as a moderator of this webinar, with other faculty members of the Economics and Business Faculty also making an appearance.

The first topic was discussed by Prof. Noel Scott from the University of Sunshine Coast. Scott explained how an international journal publication works. For the journal to be published, the content needs to hold some contributions to the public. The important aspect is that the researcher must pay attention to how their research impacts the public as a whole.

“For that reason, it is inherently important to determine what your research is for before conducting your research. Furthermore, you also need to decide both theoretic and methodological contributions of your research, as well as show the anomalies of the previous research,” Scott emphasized.

In parallel to Prof. Scott, the next speaker, Enny Susilowati Mardjono, M.Si., Akt., Ph.D., CA., CFMA., ASEAN CPA (an Instructor from the Accounting Department at Udinus) discussed several causes of an unsuccessful journal publication. Several of the causes may encompass unorganized journals, language, and writing problems, as well as failure to communicate the ideas within the journals.

“To avoid these problems, you need to learn from previous research so that the idea can be conveyed properly. It is important to finish your journal on time, but at the same time, you need to also avoid writing mistakes,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Prof. Vincent Didiek Wiet Aryanto MBA, Ph.D., (the Dean of the Economics and Business Faculty) expected students to lean from this webinar, particularly concerning scientific journal writing and international journal publication.

“We invited an expert in international journal publication to share his knowledge with our students. Hopefully, students can utilize this knowledge to its fullest,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus)
