Four students of the Engineering Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) were successfully funded by the government through the Students’ Creativity Program (PKM) 2023. With this funding, those three students invented a device called Closeatizer, which functions as an automatic sterilizer for toilets.
Closeatizer was created as a device that could break the infection chain to prevent diseases from spreading. During the creation process, the project involved three students of the Engineering Faculty, spearheaded by Eva Natalia Pramesti from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, alongside another three members, namely Shafa Salsa Fadhila, a Biomedical Engineering Student, Wahyu Alfani, and Bramandika Kunni Zulfikar, both of whom are students of the Electrical Engineering Department. They successfully got funding for the Karsa Cipta category.
The team leader, Eva, explained that the innovation served as an add on for toilets. Not only that, but Closeatizer also offers an additional feature, namely the portability to make the installation process easier. To use this device, all we have to do is put our hands near the device sensor.
“This device is equipped with a sensor so that it can automatically spray disinfectant and wipe the whole toilet surface. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to spray disinfectant manually,” she explained.
One of the members, Shafa, added that their innovation also held the feature to detect disinfectant levels; thus, the users will be notified whenever the disinfectant is almost run out. Furthermore, Closeatizer could also be installed on many types of toilets, so the users do not have to replace their toilets with new ones.
“Our innovation is far less costly compared to toilets equipped with sterilizers. Hopefully, Closeatizer could benefit and positively impact the public,” she added.
Meanwhile, Dita Ayu Mayasari, S.T., a lecturer and the instructor of the team, stated that the product was constructed in the Medical Instrumentation Lab in the Engineering Faculty. Closeatizer has also been tested in various toilets scattered around the campus, and the result was satisfying. According to her, the Students’ Creativity Program serves as a platform for students to develop their intellectual diversity.
“We will always push students to participate in positive programs like this one. Recently, we have instructed them to obtain intellectual rights for their innovation, and wishfully, Closeatizer could someday be commercialized,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Dok. Tim PKM FT Udinus)
