There was a new thing featured at the 2024 Dugderan in Semarang. It was the appearance of the Electric Pedicab of Udinus Campus (Becik-KU) created by students and faculty members of Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) that stole the spotlight at the 2024 Dugderan. For additional information, the electric pedicab is primarily used by people to tour Johar Square.
As stated by Dr. Ir. M. Ary Heryanto, the Head of the Electrical Engineering Student, the electric pedicab is a masterpiece created by both faculty members and students from Udinus. In addition, this electric vehicle also serves as a response to the demand for vehicles based on renewable energy initiated by the government.
Furthermore, he revealed that Becik-Ku served as an initial step for Udinus, particularly the Engineering Faculty, in enlivening the 2024 Dugderan. He also did not expect the electric pedicab to receive immense enthusiasm from the public.
“Through this innovation, we would like to introduce our capability of technology, as well as entertain the public at the Dugderan. In addition to Sunday, March 3rd, 2024, we will also feature this electric pedicab next Thursday and at the closing of Dugderan,” he uttered.
The Becik-KU is equipped with two rows of seats, with each of the rows can hold up to two passengers. Similar to regular pedicabs, it has three wheels with the engine placed in the rear side. The engine is rechargeable with electricity and a solar panel placed on top of the pedicab.
During his interview, Choirul Ihsan, the Chairman of the Culinary Work Group at the Grand Mosque of Semarang, stated that Dugderan was a tradition that allowed the public to gather and amuse themselves by watching the tradition. Furthermore, he also appreciated the participation of Udinus at this event.
“Innovation similar to Becik-KU showcased by Udinus also allows the general public to learn more concerning the technological breakthrough in Semarang. Hopefully, Udinus can invent many more innovations to benefit the general public,” he uttered.

Dugderan is routinely held in Semarang annually. Dugderan, at its core, is a ceremonial event hosted some days before Ramadan. This ceremony reflects the combination of the three most dominant ethnic groups in Semarang, namely, Javanese, Chinese, and Arab. In 2024, Dugderan was held on February 28th, 2024.
One of the visitors, Nurul, was happy and fascinated by the innovation created by Udinus. According to her, Becik-KU has a unique design, which attracts many people. During her attempt to board the electric pedicab, Nurul toured the location with her family.
“The innovation is quite unique and I was fortunate enough to board on it with my children and husband. We were informed of this magnificent innovation. Hopefully, Becik-KU can soon be implemented in the Old Town of Semarang,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Alex. Foto: Humas Udinus)
