The Computer Science Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) once again hosted a student orientation event, the Dinus Inside participated by all freshmen of the 2024 academic year. On the second day of the student orientation event, on September 10th, the event featured a public lecture themed ‘Character Building,’ in Room 3 on the seventh floor of the H building at Udinus.

The public lecture featured Wellia Shinta Sari, M.Kom., a faculty member of the Information Systems Department. During the lecture, Welia emphasized the importance of character building as an effort to build, fix, and prevent new students from going too far.

“Build, fix, add what is lacking, and reduce what is too much,” Wellia uttered.

In addition, she also cited the definition of character by Alpiyanto, which states that characters are comprised of values, beliefs, and personality. The good character within oneself includes sincerity, selflessness, thoughtfulness, strong will, courage, loyalty, and honor. Wellia also discussed four types of human characters, namely, choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic, and melancholic.

The public lecture concluded with a session discussing the ‘inner child’ and the importance of working together. On that occasion, Wellia explained that building solidarity within a team comes with problems, but one must be able to overcome these problems as solidarity is crucial in the industry.

“It is indeed difficult to maintain solidarity by working together, but it will eventually become essential in your workplaces,” Wellia emphasized.

Through this public lecture, Wellia hoped for students to not only excel academically but also have good character.

“We present this lecture so that you can be good and caring people within your workplaces, in addition to your academic accomplishments and excellent grades,” she concluded.

The public lecture was a part of the 2024 Dinus Inside. As a whole, there are a total of 3,657 freshmen at Udinus, coming from different provinces in Indonesia. In addition to domestic students, there are also new students from different countries participating in the 2024 Dinus Inside.
