The spread of 20,000 Nile tilapia fish on the Jatibarang reservoir was a part of the 2023 Dinus Inside hosted by Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus). This activity aimed to give the 3527 freshmen at Udinus insight into the environment.
On that occasion, the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau, Dr. Rindra Yusiantom, S.Kom., M.T., did the Nile tilapia fish handover ceremony which was received by Widodo, the Secretary of Sadar Wisata Group (Pokdarwis).
The fish spreading activity was also participated by several new student representatives, foreign students from Tajikistan and Papua New Guinea, and numerous exchange students participating in the Independent Student Exchange Program (PMM).
In his interview following the spreading, Dr. Rindra, representing the whole academic community at Udinus, was grateful to realize this activity. Hopefully, the local community could develop and utilize these Nile tilapias to its fullest extent. This fish-spreading activity also served as a platform to encourage students to do public services.
“Similar to years prior, we did the fish spreading on the Jatibarang reservoir and sowed 3.517 mangrove seeds in Mangunharjo. Hence, we introduced the new students to help in various sectors,” he uttered.
As additional information, on the second day of the 2023 Dinus Inside, the whole academic community at Udinus assisted many different sectors. Not only did they scatter 20,000 Nile tilapia, but they also sowed 3.517 mangrove seeds and did social services in different places.
A Tajikistani student, Najbulloh Nuraliev admitted that it was his first experience to do a fish-spreading activity. According to him, this type of activity needed to be done more to hone the students’ soft skills as well as to gain the student’s awareness of the environment.
“I hope through this activity, I could gather more experience and learn new cultures, particularly in Semarang. Upon coming back to my country, I will share everything I have learned with my local community,” he uttered.
