Having been able to convey her creative ideas on towel media, Veronica Halim triumphantly emerged as a runner-up at the 2021 National Towel Art Competition Hospitour. Ica, an Applied Hotel Management student, came up with the Dog Towel Art concept to decorate a hotel room.

Upon acquiring the desired concept, Ica began to practice the process by shaping the towel to make it resemble a dog. She used towels with various colors such as yellow, purple, and gray. Moreover, Ica also prepared many kinds of additional accessories to better the towel art. Those accessories were eyes, ears, ribbons, and petal roses made of paper and flannel cloth.

“Once everything had been prepared, I started to record the towel art with a handphone. The recorded video would later be uploaded on TikTok and Instagram,” she explained.

Despite being a newcomer in the national art tower competition, Ica, born on August 23rd, 2001, managed to give the other 17 participants a decent challenge. The competition hosted by a university in Tangerang served as a platform to unleash the students’ creativity, particularly in creating a fauna-themed towel art.

“The contestants were permitted freely choose which animal to be presented in the form of towel art, in those 5-minute videos, the towels could also be decorated with additional accessories such as ribbons and flowers,” Ica added.

Ica, a member of the entrepreneurial unit in the Department of Hotel Management, is also capable of managing her time properly by avoiding pointless tasks that consume lots of time and paying attention to both campus and organizational activities. “Once I receive a campus assignment, I will finish it on the same day so that I can do many other productive tasks,” she revealed.

Furthermore, Ica added that the Applied Hotel Management Study Program was an intriguing and exciting field of study to pursue. There are lots of study materials relating to the hotel industry including how to properly provide service to customers and how to look appealing. “Not only that but we were also trained to process a food hygienically and its serving method, as well as much more insight utilized in the hotel industry,” she concluded (Humas Udinus/Hari.
