Pursuing her career as a housewife is not an impossible task for Siti Umiyatun, a native of Semarang Regency working as the Chief of Medical Record Agency at Hermina Hospital in Semarang.

Umi, an alumna of the Medical Record Program of the 2001 cohort at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus), could in fact allocate her time for office affairs and family. Moreover, since she was appointed as the Chief of the Medical Record Agency, Umi must carry more responsibility than ever before, not only as an executive but also bear the burden of being a person in charge of the medical record service.

“Actually, I changed my workplace from the old hospital to the current hospital, at the old hospital I was only dispatched to one job with a shifting system, so I was not overwhelmed by my job and could master it in no time. However, ever since I became the Chief of the Medical Record Agency, I could finally understand that time and job management are important,” she revealed.

Umi allocates her work and family time in such a simple manner, that is by bringing reports which should be worked on at home; thus, she could spend time with her family more. She claimed that she still prioritized her family matters over everything. “It is indeed my priority to be a good housewife. Upon doing every homework, I continue my office job,” she uttered.

Her current job is integrated with her love for her parents. Umi who from 2005 until 2009 worked as a medical recorder at a hospital in Bandung was asked to return to Semarang. Then, she found a job at Hermina Hospital. “The year was 2009. I was asked to return home and how fortunate I was to find a job at Hermina Hospital. Thankfully, the job fit me, and I was accepted as a medical recorder at that hospital.,” Umi uttered.

To this day, Umi holds the principle of working as a form of her devotion to God to become more successful at work. Additionally, she tries her best to give the finest service possible and be passionate, as well as not to give in. According to her, tying relations is also essential at the workplace. There are two benefits she gets through relations including enhancing solidarity among the colleagues and being able to understand each other. “I usually get by at work by establishing proper relationships with both internal and external staff at the hospital, receiving criticism, and possessing the desire to keep learning,” she shared.

Umi further added that she has been applying much of the knowledge she gained on campus throughout her career including hospital statistics, disease coding, and medical terminologies.

Ultimately, she encouraged students at Udinus to utilize their college phases to their fullest; thus, they could apply the knowledge they learned in the industry. In addition to that, she also persuaded students to respect their lecturers so they could be blessed in future. On top of that, she also aspired that the campus could produce more talented medical recorders with a sense of morality. (Humas Udinus /Almira. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
