Innovation is one of the most essential aspects for a civilization to advance further. Recently, the Humanities Faculty at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) successfully obtained the copyright for a computer program, namely, Inclusive Mobile Application of Intermediate English Grammar Course.

The app was created by a student under the guidance of a faculty member of the English Department. The format of the app has been calibrated, allowing it to be accessible using various digital devices, particularly Android. It was developed to assist blind students in studying English Grammar.

Yolanda, the inventor of this app, expressed her utmost gratitude for being able to take part in developing this app, especially helping blind students in studying. On the same occasion, she revealed that the development spanned two to three months. Equipped with the text-to-speech feature, this app can help blind students in accessing the learning material.

“The text-to-speech feature is capable of turning written texts into a voice that can be heard by blind students. Additionally, this app is accessible from various kinds of devices, including mobile phones and laptops,” she explained.

Dr. Raden Arief Nugroho, S.S., M.Hum., the Dean of the Humanities Faculty, hoped for this application to benefit blind students in studying, particularly grammar. Grammar itself is a course that can be learned through voices. Thus, the app may have the capability to assist blind students in learning grammar.

“Through this app, our blind students could essentially be helped. Hopefully, they will be able to be more passionate in studying and expanding their knowledge,” the dean concluded.

For additional information, Udinus is a university open to people with disabilities. Both faculty members and students are very open to the idea of sharing their knowledge with people with disabilities.
