Computational Thinking (CT) is an essential problem-solving technique to be mastered by everyone in the current era of digital economics. Committed to raising public awareness regarding CT, a community service team from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) held ‘CT Training and Coaching for Teachers at Gaussian Kamil School,’ on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023.

A total of eleven students at Gaussian Kamil School attended the training program in the school hall. One of the community members team, Ayu Pertiwi, S.Kom., M.T., discussed the concept of Unplugged Programming Activity (UPA) and Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA). The training program was conducted in a proper manner as a number of participants asked questions.

Ayu Pertiwi, S.Kom., M.T., a faculty member of the Communication Science Department, explained that this training program aimed to educate those teachers so that they could give those pieces of knowledge to their students immediately. As an additional note, this training program was a part of the ‘Bebras Pandai’ Movement Program.

“Through this training program, we would like to push the young generation to prepare for the Society 5.0 era, an era in which humans are the center of the point and technology is no longer a new concept,” Ayu uttered.

In that training program, the team emphasized the concept of UPA, which means programming without the use of computers or digital equipment. By implementing this concept, students would be able to hone their basic logic by playing snakes and ladders, as well as bee robots. Thus, problem-solving abilities possessed by students could be improved even further.

“The more they train their CT ability, the better students get at resolving complex problems. Through the concept of UPA, training could be conducted more regularly and be more relatable to daily lives,” she concluded.

The training program lasted three days, from May 16th to 19th, 2023. As additional information, the campus has become a part of the ‘Bebras Pandai’ Movement Program since 2017, with many training programs hosted in Semarang. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus)
