Universitas Dian Nuswantoro, (Udinus) once again sent hundreds of help for the flood victims in Demak Regency. The aid was embodied in the form of an event entitled ‘Udinus Peduli’ involving several instructors and students.

The aids came in the form of 5000 sets of presents consisting of groceries, clothing, and blankets. The presents were handed directly to the post coordinator at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Ngakuran, Demak. These raw groceries would later be processed and distributed to several posts.

On behalf of the whole academic community, Andi Hallang Lewa, SS,MM., the Head of the Admission Bureau at Udinus, was also present at the post. On that occasion, he explained that the aid was a form of concern from Udinus for victims of this flood disaster. The aids were adjusted to the needs of these refugees.

“Several staff and faculty members, as well as students, have been dispatched to help distributing these aids,” he hoped.

During his interview after dispatching the helping team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom., the Chancellor of Udinus, hoped for these presents to be beneficial and provide the refugees with assistance.

“Hopefully, the floods could end soon, so that everything could go back to normal,” the chancellor hoped.

Before this, Demak Regency had been heavily devastated by the flood. The flood itself was caused by the damaged embankment located along the Wulan River, which serves as a border for both the Demak and Kudus Regencies. As a result, thousands of houses were flooded. Moreover, the heavy rain lasting for two days only worsened the situation.

Much Help is Needed

The flood disaster in Demak Regency lasted for roughly a week. The assertion issued by the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Demak on Sunday, March 17th, 2024 at 1 p.m. confirmed this. They stated that the flood spread to 88 different villages and ten sub-districts. As of now, there are 12.982 locals taking refuge in several posts.

Nurokhim, the coordinator of the Iphi Gajah Refuge Post, said that they were in a desperate need of further assistance, particularly for the refugees. On that occasion, he also expressed his gratitude to Udinus for sending help.

“I cannot thank Udinus enough for this aid, and we will distribute this aid right away to the refugees. This is the exact help we need,” Nurokhim revealed. (Humas Udinus/Alex. Foto: Humas Udinus)
