Committed to improving the Undergraduate Animation Program at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro, (Udinus), Sultan Gustaf Al Ghozali gave the campus motion capture devices. This device holds the capability of generating a more realistic movement for animated characters like ‘Si Warik.’

The Motion Capture Devices given by Ghozali were ‘The Rokoko Smart Suit Pro II’ and ‘The Rokoko Smart Glove.’ Those two devices, valued at Rp. 56 million, were produced by a Danish company known as the Rokoko Corporation. Rokoko Smart Suit Pro II has various sensors, including shoulders and feet. These sensors can also detect users’ movements realistically, which can be implemented in animated characters.

Meanwhile, the Rokoko Smart Glove detects the hand movements of the users, including clenching, swinging, waving, and other hand movements. Both the Smart Suit Pro II and the Rokoko Smart Glove are connected to a computer in which software for recording movement is installed through a Wi-Fi network. As additional information, motion capture devices are technologies used to record movements realistically by converting human movements into two-dimensional and three-dimensional digital worlds.

During his interview, Ghozali, an alumnus from Udinus known for his NFT selfie, explained that he gave both the Rokoko Smart Suit Pro II and the Rokoko Smart Glove to optimize the animation quality in the Animation Department at Udinus. In addition, he would also like to improve students’ ability to animate through these two devices.

“Through these devices, producing animation and characters’ movements has never been easier and faster. If one were to manually produce these movements, they would take even more time as they got to draw the movements one by one,” he explained.

The devices were directly given by Ghozali to Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom., (the Chancellor of Udinus). On that occasion, Dr. Abdul Syukur., (the Dean of the Computer Science Faculty) was also present. Furthermore, several prominent figures also made an appearance, including Prof. Dr. Supriadi Rustad., M.Si., (the Vice Chancellor I of Academic Affairs), Dr. Guruh Fajar Shidik, S.Kom., (the Vice Chancellor II of General and Financial Affairs), Dr. Kusni Ingsih, MM., (the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs), and Dr. Khafiizh Hastuti, S.Kom., M.Kom., (the Department Head of Animation Program).

Prof. Dr. Ir. Edi Noersasongko, M.Kom., (the Chancellor of Udinus) expressed his gratitude for the gift given by Ghozali. He further hoped for Si Warik and other animated works created by Udinus to be one of the top animated works created in Indonesia.

“We hereby express our gratitude for this support given by alumni from our campus, including Ghozali. This device is very beneficial for students to learn the process of animating more quickly,” said the chancellor concerning the motion capture device. motion capture devices.

At the end of that session, there was also an agreement of partnership between the Computer Science Faculty and Yamaha Motor Indonesia. (Humas Udinus/Alex. Foto: Humas Udinus)
