Three students of the Hotel Management Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) once again garnered an achievement in the creative event proposal category. These three students were part of the Nusantara Entertainment team. The team achieved this amazing feat at the Entrance of the Portal to Hospitable Competition and Seminar (EPHICS), which was held this July.

At that national competition, the team emerged as a runner-up. The team was led by Veronica Halim, who was also accompanied by her fellow Hotel Management students, including Joseph Aldo Irawan and Aji Kusumah Ramdhani.

Veronica explained that their proposal was entitled ‘Caruban Festival 2023.’ It holds the idea of an international event focusing on the cultural diversity in Cirebon. Furthermore, Veronica explained that this idea had emerged from the fact that Cirebon is a culturally diverse city. It houses various cultures, including Sundanese, Javanese, and Chinese.

“We picked Caruban Festival as a name to describe the city of Cirebon. Moreover, we also focus on other aspects including, sponsors, layouts, and payment devices at the bazaar. As for the payment device, we decided to use picis, a coin currency native from Cirebon,” he uttered.

One of the team members, Aji, added that before writing the proposal, the team did a background check concerning the cultures within Cirebon. Thus, the ideas can actually represent Cirebon. Additionally, he also expressed his pride for being able to compete with the other ten participants before the judges.

“We have given our best before all three judges, who were all natives of Cirebon. The judges consisted of a cultural expert, a representative from the Tourism Service, and a representative from the Ministry of Tourism of Cirebon Association,” he added.

Prior to this, an achievement of the same category was also won by the Nusantara Entertainment team. This amazing achievement was earned at the 2022 Hospitour Competition.

In response to this remarkable feat, Izza Ulumuddin Ahmad Asshofi, S.E., M.Par., the team instructor, expressed his pride for the accomplishment earned by his students. Through this proposed idea, the team is expected to organize an event on their own in the future. Thus, they can share their knowledge with their fellow students or juniors.

“The Faculty of Humanities will keep supporting its students, particularly in evaluating their past mistakes. This will allow them to prevent these mistakes from happening in the next competition,” he revealed.

As additional information, EPHICS 1.0 was the first event hosted by a tourism school in Cirebon. It employed the theme of ‘Adaptation,’ and was hosted from July 4th to 7th, 2022. In addition to the proposal, there were also other contest categories surrounding tourism. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus)
