Facing a digital transformation in the field of accounting, the Undergraduate Accounting Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) held a national seminar featuring experts, including an academician and a practitioner. The seminar was hosted online through the Zoom Meeting platform on Saturday, November 12th, 2022.
The seminar employed the theme ‘The Role of Accountants in Developing Sustainable Economy and Digital Businesses 2022.’ It featured two expert speakers discussing the role of accountants in the digital era, as well as sharing their experiences in facing the digital transformation as accountants.
Those two speakers were Hendri Santosa, SE., Ak., M.Si., CA., CFRA, CRP., QRGP., CGCAE, Asean CPA, (a practitioner and the Head of the Accounting Association of Central Java) and Agung Prajanto, SE., M.Si., Ak., CA, CPA (an academician and a faculty member of the Accounting Department at Udinus).
During her greetings, Dr. Retno Indah Hernawati, S.E., M.Si., (the Head of the Accounting Department) stated that the COVID-19 outbreak pushed all aspects of work to undergo a digital transformation, including accounting. According to the existing data, the general public’s interest in the field of accounting has undergone a major decline.
“Through this seminar, we expect students to be more motivated to become accountants. It has always been our concern to instruct students to gather knowledge directly from its roots, namely, experts from the industry,” she explained.
On that occasion, Hendri Santosa (a practitioner) shared his experience of becoming a lifelong accountant for three decades. One of the most visible changes was the period of making an audit report, from using manual methods to utilizing computers. In addition, the outbreak has also opened brand new opportunities for accountants with the presence of remote remote audit.
“In the future, the field of accounting will not just vanish as we have been trained to be creative in facing the everchanging era. We, as accountants, will face these problems through outside the box thinking,” Hendri explained.
The second topic was discussed by Agung Prajanto, SE., M.Si., Ak., CA., CPA, concerning the accounting industry in the sustainable era. He also discussed the idea of a digital economic system in the sustainable era, as well as several things students must prepare to embark on their career in this industry.
The seminar was also attended by Prof. Vincent Didek Wiet Aryanto MBA, Ph.D., (the Dean of the Economics and Business Faculty) and the whole academic community within the Economics and Business Faculty. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus)
