Having the eminence and experience in the debating field, Syella Telyvia Tania, an undergraduate student of Communication Science at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) Semarang became the President of Central Java Debating Community (CJDC).
CJDC is a debating community that collaborates with all universities across Central Java. The position was earned by Syella on August 17th, 2021. The presidential election was done publicly and participated by all members of CJDC of Central Java. Other than the president, there were also 8 delegations from various universities who organized the community.
“Being elected as the president involved careful consideration by senior members, for my active participation in debate contests and my organizational skills,” said Syella, born in Jakarta, on January 17th, 2001.
Syella, who loves making video content, explained that one of the responsibilities that she carried as a president was to host an annual competition of CJDC Cup. Skills in debating as well as public speaking are kept honed by her even after she became part of that community.
"Normally, we participate in many other universities debate competitions. This allows me to connect with fellow students who share a passion for the same activity," Syella added.
There were many prestigious competitions won by Syella. For example, she became the Novice Champion of the National University Debating Championship in 2019. In 2021 she stood out as the main semifinalist in Medan Debate Open, and Kalimantan Debate Open, as well as the main finalist in the Argument Open.
Syella, the president of the Udinus Debating Community (UDC) 2020/2021 period, is often appointed as the judge in several competitions, owing to the jury accreditation that she obtained in 2020 hence she is qualified to judge in debating contests.
“Having the opportunity as a president in one of the best communities became the most valuable experience for me.
