The Students Choir Group (PSM) of Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) came back to compete at The Singapore International Choral Festival. Student members of Gita Dian Nuswa (GDN) brought 2 silver medals in two different categories.

The PSM Gita Dian Nuswa consisted of 28 talented members from various study programs at Udinus. The event was held for 4 days from July 16th to 19th 2023 at Victoria Concert Hall and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music Singapore. They competed against more than 60 groups from many countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong. They won the medal for the category of Mixed Voice & Folklore.

Kristin Ishak Kurnia Dwi, the general chief of PSM GDN, explained that there were three songs needed to be performed in each category. For the mixed voice category, they sang O Salutaris, Lux Aeterna, and Elders Drinking Song.

“For the category of Folklore, we had to sing traditional songs. Including Ugo-ugo, Cikala Le Pong-Pong, and Kembang Janger Dance,” informed Kristin.

Since competing in that contest, Dian Nuswa Group had done several preparations such as vocal training. Kristin said that they trained every day for 6 months straight. They also devoted attention to costumes, musical instruments, and accommodations, leaving no detail to chance. Their meticulous preparations played a crucial role in their remarkable achievements at the event.

“After undertaking a challenging journey, we are proud of our performance which not only showcased our talents but also raised Udinus' reputation on the international level. Through this achievement, I am hoping that the achievement can serve as a motivation for the members of Gita Dian Nuswa Group in facing the upcoming competition,” uttered Kristin.

In addition, the Singapore International Choral Festival, organized by SourceWerkz and Rave, marked its seventh consecutive year of the competition.

Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., Vice-Chancellor III, Conveyed her pride regarding the PSM GDN’s achievement. Not only that, Udinus also appreciated the choir group by giving scholarships to each member involved in competing in both national and international contests.

“Obviously, the hard work of self-preparation would give the best result. I hope these achievements can be the perfect inspiration for other students to perform at the international level,” she concluded.
