Students at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) keep achieving astounding non-academic feats at National Championship. Recently, Bagas Pradipa, a Kempo athlete at Udinus, garnered a gold medal at the National Open Shorinji.

At the championship, Bagas emerged victorious in the 60kg Class Randori Category. With this accomplishment, Bagas expressed his joy for earning the best possible results, namely, the first place.

“My main preparation includes everyday physical training by attacking the punching bag. I have done the training for the past month. Furthermore, when the competition was near, I focused solely on it and believed in myself and the process,” he uttered.

As additional information, the National Open Shorinji Championship is a national event hosted by a university in Semarang. The event also involved the Koni of Semarang and the headquarters of the Kempo Association of Indonesia.

Bagus added that the championship was competed by 400 athletes, eighty of them came from various cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Bogor, Sleman, and Gunung Kidul.

“Every opponent I faced was tough, as I don’t usually look down upon them. In the Randori category, an athlete is obliged to score two points in a match lasting for two minutes,” he explained.

“A point will be given if the athlete lands a kick straight to the bodyguard. Another can also be scored by landing a critical blow on the opponent’s head,” the athlete, born in Semarang on May 25, 2003, uttered.

In response to this accomplishment, Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., M.T., the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau at Udinus, expressed his pride to Bagus for defeating the host that had dominated the Kempo spots branch. According to him, the accomplishment could potentially improve Udinus’ reputation on the national level.

“This accomplishment can also motivate other students at Udinus to become athletes in various sports branches on campus. In addition, we will also reward these accomplished athletes with scholarships,” Rindra revealed. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Humas Udinus)
