Growing up around musicians, Nareswari Kinanthi Gusti, a Management Student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus), became inspired to become a musician herself.
Ever since she was nine, Nareswari, commonly known as Nares, has essentially been a vocalist. According to her, the interesting aspect of becoming a vocalist was the fact that she had to present a song in such a way that the message could properly be delivered. For that reason, there are several things to be noted when becoming a vocalist.
“We need to make sure that we choose the proper singing technique, including the sensitivity to the tune, melody, and harmonization,” she uttered.
As a college student, Nares’ commitment as a vocalist becomes more powerful. This is because Nares, born in 2004, is a part of the Gita Dian Nuswa Choir Group. In the 2024/2025 period, she is trusted to be the chief of the choir group, leading dozens of other students with diverse backgrounds.
“I usually coordinate other members by reminding them of our common goals, so they can understand each other. In addition, I’m also open to those who have criticism or complains in mind,” he revealed.
Furthermore, Nares stated that they would also often motivate each other whenever they work on something. According to her, this was an important step to activate their enthusiasm, allowing them to contribute more.
Nares’ Accomplishment
With the Gita Dian Nuswa Choir Group, Nares has achieved numerous accomplishments, including the Silver Award at the 2023 Mixed Category 7th Singapore International Choral Festival, the Gold Medal at the 2023 Mixed Category 6th Karangturi International Choir Competition, Fifth Place at the 2024 Regional Student’s Artistic Week of Central Java in the Women’s Opera Seria category, and many more.
Recently, the choir team has also secured two accomplishments at the 2024 International Choir Competition hosted by a private university in Semarang. Those accomplishments were a silver medal in the Equal category and a gold medal in the Folklore category.
“I often conduct a routine training daily. Not only that, I also prepare myself by studying the song I’m about to present in the competition, including its notation, articulation, and interpretation,” she admitted.
This accomplishment will not be the last for Nares. She stated that she still had room to improve as a vocalist.
“I want to give my knowledge and skills to the members of the Dian Nuswa Choir Group. Thus, in the future, the choir group will see a significant growth through its accomplishments,” she concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
