Six students of the Communication Science Department at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) were given an appreciation from the Regional Broadcasting Commission (RBC) of Central Java for their creative and unique public service announcement (PSA). In the PSA, those six students encouraged the public to reduce plastic waste in Semarang.

This meaningful message was conveyed through a one-minute video, and it has been published in a local TV station in Central Java, namely ‘Televisi Kampus Udinus’ (TVKU). Those six students who achieved the trophy from the RBC were Dinda Maulida, Novi Sulistyaningrum, Dhea Ultra Azieza, Cakra Bagus, Ahmada Shauqi, and M. Sahal Adinatra. These students formed a specific team to create the PSA.

Dinda Maulida, one of the team members, explained that the one-minute PSA served as a step to encourage the Indonesian youths to lessen their plastic usage. According to her, plastic waste has been an adversary of our natural environment.

“This is our attempt to reduce plastic waste scattered around our community. This might not be much, but we are still committed to persuading our youths to pour their love into nature,” she uttered.

She revealed that the PSA was initially merely a regular assignment. However, their lecturer supported them to the point they could use the PSA in the competition hosted by the RBC. “At first, the PSA was only intended to fulfill our day assignment, but thanks to our lecturers, we were able to get the PSA to participate in that competition leading to us winning, which is truly a token of pride for six of us,” she revealed.

The trophy presentation took place on June 22, 2019, at the Lorin Solo Hotel. The PSA mainly tells the story of a young man jogging and then littering, as if he no longer cares about this world. After this scene, another young man takes the garbage and encourages the people around the place to throw the plastic garbage in the right place. Agus Triyono, S.Sos., M.Si., the Head of Public Relations at Udinus, hoped the students could gather many more accomplishments for the years to come.

“This is a prideful attainment, which every good student must keep in mind,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/lex/AT/Foto: Alex Devada)
