Possessing their dream jobs upon graduating from college is the best accomplishment one could ever ask for. Those individuals must prepare to learn and dive into many new things. Adelia Dini Menawarti, an Industrial Engineering Student at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus), is among those individuals. Currently, Adel is working as a relations manager at Mandiri Bank in Tangerang Bintaro, Jakarta Region.

Despite not having a job in line with her major at college, Adel claimed that she did not encounter any obstacles in her job. As a matter of fact, she saw her job as a challenge to overcome; thus, she could accept more difficult tasks in her career. Additionally, she has been learning new things since college.

“Upon graduating, I looked for a job right away. At that time, I was determined to work in a state-owned enterprise, and I figured out the criteria to get a job in my desired company to work at. Therefore, I was sure that being eager to learn new knowledge could improve my insight and ability; in addition to that, I always do my best in everything I work on.,” Adel revealed.

Adel, born on May 24, 1993, once thought that she had mistakenly chosen her job as it did not align with her field of expertise at college. However, she kept learning to hone her skills at work. She further added that there was a course on campus benefitting her in her career, namely, the Analytical Knowledge course, which guided her to develop her soft skills. Through the soft skills she had learned from that course, she could implement those skills at her workplace.

During her time as a college student, she learned many things to pursue her passion by joining a student unit. Adel revealed that she had learned countless pieces of knowledge in the Campus Pers Wartadinus Student Unit.

“I was once trusted as the Chief of that student unit. With only my fondness for writing, I decided to join the Campus Pers Wartadinus Unit, but it turned out that there were lots to explore back there including, leadership skills, writing skills, meeting new faces, and honing soft skills to utilize at work,” she explained.

According to her, entering the industry is the first step for us to keep learning to survive and give our best work performance. Even though her job is completely different from her field of expertise at college, it still opens the possibility of her passion being much different than her major on campus. For that reason, Adel suggested students expand their experience, hone their soft skills, and tie relations with many people, as well as join a student unit to pursue their passion.

Adel encouraged students who want to work outside of their field not to be hesitant to dive into an entirely new realm, as not everything is under our control. “Do your best and try not to be hesitant even though it will not be the best for you. Pour everything into whatever you are working on, as the result may determine who you are,” she concluded. (Humas/Nuvia. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
