The Dinus Chess Competition was once again held as a part of the Dinus Festival (Dinusfest). With more than 173 chess players participating, the Udinus Chess Robot (Roca-KU) was also featured to test the participants. In addition, fast chess matches also took place simultaneously in the auditorium on the third floor of the E building at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023.

The competition, initiated by the Chess unit at Udinus, stole attention from several chess masters, including the International Master (IM) and Grand Master (GM). Those chess masters were also seen participating at the 2023 Dinus Chess Competition. 

Surya Wahyu Putra, the Head of the committee and the Chess unit explained that the competition employed the Swiss system with nine rounds. Through the implementation of the fast chess model, participants were provided ten minutes to think and five seconds to take increments .

“Participants were enthusiastic as they could finally compete offline here at Udinus. The participant with the highest points will later emerge as the winner, and we would later determine 25 winners and the best juniors of U-18,” he revealed.

On that occasion, Novendra, a chess grandmaster, expressed his pleasure to be back at Udinus upon competing against Rocak-KU times prior. This time, Novendra finally got to test his ability against other chess players of different ranks.

“I would think that Udinus is truly remarkable for its chess robot as well as its commitment to held such prestigious chess competition,” said the grandmaster.

In addition to Novendra, there were also other chess masters attending the competition including Farid (an International Master), Ivan Situru (an International Master), and Ahmad Riziq, who won the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Youth Chess Championship.

At the event, Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., the Vice Chancellor III of Student Affairs, sounded a musical instrument named gong, marking the opening of the chess competition. On that occasion, she was accompanied by Dr. Rindra Yusianto, M.T. (the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau at Udinus) and Didik Sakti Aji, S.Kom. (the Head of the Chess Association of Semarang). 

Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., the Vice Chancellor III of Students Affairs, hoped for this event to garner more young talented athletes so that they could eventually reinforce Udinus, the Central Java Contingent, and Indonesia. According to the data, the participants came from many different grade, middle, and high schools across the nation, as well as the general public.

“With these young talents, we would like to present them scholarships if they could be accomplished both on national and international levels,” she concluded.

In addition to sports, the 2023 Dinusfest was enlivened by other kinds of competitions, including arts and scientific papers. With more than 63 contest categories, the 2023 Dinusfest was participated by 5124 students.
