The Sekar Nuswantoro Gamelan Robot invented by students and faculty members from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) successfully stole the spotlight at an exhibition named ‘Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things.’ The gamelan robot once again showcased its capability in playing gamelan assembly at the ‘Smart City National Seminar’ at the MG Setos Hotel on Thursday, May 4th, 2023.

This AI-equipped robot will be developed in many sectors, including economics, education, and music. Through this gamelan robot, participants could listen to Javanese musical tunes delivered by this innovation.

Dr. Arry Maulana Syarif, S.S., M.Kom., the Head Developer, stated that the robot’s performance had already been tested and proved to be a success. Thus far, the development has reached the next level, namely the commercialization process.

“Currently, we are designing the digital-based commercialization system of this robot. We design the system through a downstream research scheme using funding provided by both internal and external parties,” he explained.

The robot has possessed more than twenty copyrights. Dr. Arry also stated that digital commercialization would be targeted to finish this year. “This is done so that the gamelan robot could be put on the market by the time we depart to the UN Headquarters, Geneva, Swiss,” Dr. Arry added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Drs. Abdul Syukur, M.M., the Dean of the Computer Science Faculty, uttered that the commercialization research would involve various students and faculty members from the Information System Department. This step would be taken to fulfill the implementation of the Outcome Based Education (OBE) curriculum, which aims for students to be skilled, knowledgeable, and moral.

“In addition to students and faculty members, we would also like to involve several industrial partners. Hopefully, this process could serve as an actualization of the OBE curriculum,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Haris. Foto: Dok. FIK Udinus)
