Once again, the Karate Unit at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) attained remarkable accomplishments. At the competition entitled International Sebelas Maret Karate Cup XII 2023, the athletes from the Karate Unit successfully garnered four medals.

The competition was hosted by a public university in Surakarta from March 16th to 19th, 2023, in the gymnasium of the sports faculty. At the event, the athletes from Udinus had to face 400 competing athletes. Several of them were from foreign continents, including Brunei, Malaysia, and other SEA countries.

At the competition, Udinus successfully earned two gold medals, a silver medal, and a bronze medal. Those two gold medals were garnered by two Management students, namely, Getta Shafada Aryadilana in the men’s kumite +84kg class and Hera Inandha in the women’s kumite +68kg class. In addition to achieving a gold medal, Hera also got the Best of the Best title. Meanwhile, Getta also won second place in the men’s group kumite class.

Furthermore, other silver medals were garnered by Muhammad Wafi Rohman (a Communication student), Arya Hasta Pradana (a Management student), Kiansantang Atmaja Nagara Assyahiid (a Management student), Ravi Firman Dwirahma (a Management student), and Renditya Hikmal Aryantara (an Environmental Health student), all of which were in the same category, namely, the men’s group kumite category. Meanwhile, the bronze medal was grasped by Laila Nurul Humairoh (a Management student) in the women’s kumite category.

As stated by the Chief of the Karate Unit, Hera Inandah, these attainments earned by the Karate Unit could not come true had the unit not been training routinely. During the preparation for this competition, the athletes from the unit trained independently at Udinus Sport Center (USC).

“Additionally, we also learned a lot of things from our coaches, which resulted in us being able to be confident with our skills at the competition,” she explained.

The coach, Apri, constantly accompanied and instructed the athletes to routinely train. Moreover, he was also proud of the attainments earned by his students.

“Despite only dispatching ten athletes, Udinus emerged as the runner-up by defeating other athletes from various universities that sent 20 to 40 athletes. All of these successes are the embodiment of their dedication all this time,” he uttered.

Apri and the athletes expressed their gratitude to the campus for the remarkable facilities and support given by the campus, specifically the Student Affairs Bureau (BIMA), who always give the best instruction for every step they take.

“Hopefully, Udinus will always provide support to the athletes representing the campus,” he hoped.

In response to this phenomenal accomplishment, Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., M.T., the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau, congratulated the athletes for their remarkable performance at the competition. For additional information, Udinus commonly rewards its athletes with scholarships for their national and international attainments.

“Both academic and non-academic accomplishments are rewarded with scholarships. Hopefully, for the years to come, our students will be able to make a name for our campus by accomplishing more,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Ika. Foto: Humas Udinus)
