Having been productive in conducting creative projects, students of the Department of Film and Television at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) participated in the ‘Monthly Film Festival,’ hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economics not too long ago.

At the competition, two film projects proposed by students successfully acquired funding from FlipFlop TV. According to Ivan Valentinus, the director, those two films created by students of the Film and Television Department are entitled ‘Family Trip’ and ‘The Revenge.’

“Prior to this, we made a film named ‘Utopia,’ which was qualified to screen at the Monthly Film Festival. Moreover, we also had the right to use various facilities, including a workshop aimed at pitching to investors. This pitching process was where we proposed the ‘Family Trip’ project and received the funding,” he explained.

Ivan explained that ‘Family Trip’ mainly told a story about a widower struggling to blend in with his family after ten long years of not seeing two of his children. As the film goes on, the widower begins to slowly blend in with his family, particularly with his two children. ‘Family Trip’ was made by eight students, and a road movie would be a perfect category for it.

“There are still only a few filmmakers who explore this kind of film, particularly in the short film media. Therefore, we would like to explore this film genre and give the audience a fresh breath of air from the film industry,” Ivan revealed.

Prior to the funding, the promotor had to undergo a series of selection processes. The selection took place last March. Then, the results were announced on May 2, 2023. The organizer, FlipFlop TV, would facilitate the best films with workshops and pitching with investors.

Through the Monthly Film Festival, the students of the Film and Television Study Program, particularly the 2021 cohort, could improve their latent potential and creativity in the field of broadcasting. “Hopefully, we will be able to produce more creative film projects that would impress the public,” Ivan concluded.
