Two Taekwondo athletes from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) Semarang, Daffa Fauzan and Devandra Ferdinand Darmansyah successfully secured award medals, at the ‘3rd Scotland Open Online Poomsae and Speed Kicking Championship’. Both of the gold medals were taken by the representative student of the Faculty of Computer Science at Udinus.

The international championship was organized online during last March 2023. Two of Udinus’ athletes competed against hundreds of other athletes from different countries such as Thailand, Belgium, Vietnam, and Greece.

During that event, Daffa Fauzan, an undergraduate student of Communication Science, was able to stand in first place for the Senior U30 Male Category. While Devanda Ferdinand, an undergraduate student of Communication and Visual Design (DKV), triumphantly won first place for the Senior U30 Beginner Male Category. Daffa and Devandra, from the 2021 cohort, also participated in the Taekwondo Student Activity Unit at Udinus.

“I feel proud to be part of the Taekwondo Organization at Udinus. Because of it, I get the chance to contribute my achievement to the international level, upholding the name of the campus,” said Daffa Fauzan, one of the gold medalists.

At the online Taekwondo Championship, participants were not directly facing the judges but they had to submit their movements in the form of video. Daffa explained that they were obliged to make a video of speed-kicking movement in one minute.

“Continuing with the submitting process, followed with the judges gave the scores at each of the categories. Despite the competition being conducted online, this kind of experience is very priceless to us,” stated Daffa.

Vice Rector III Students’ Affairs Sector, Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., was also proud of the student’s achievements. She said that support and appreciation will always be given by the student affairs department, one of which is scholarships to all medalists at national and international competitions.

“Hopefully, the athletes of Udinus can compete at the international level. Last time, a lot of achievements have been obtained by students at the international event like SEA Games 2023,” said Dr. Kusni. (Udinus Public Relation/Haris. Photo: Udinus PR)
