Three short movies created by Film and Television students at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) triumphantly attained three different awards at the end of last November. Those awards were earned at the competition initiated by the Natural Resources and Infrastructure Bureau of Central Java.

The movies created by Film and Television students managed to win in two different categories. In the fiction category, a film entitled “Made in Madness,” directed by Richard Farrel, won second place. In the same category, a short movie created by students of Udinus entitled “Forgery” also managed to secure the third place. “Forgery” is a movie directed by Bima Pandu.

Meanwhile, a film entitled “Romansa Rokok,” directed by Moshiyak Ayubbai, also became a runner-up in the documentary category. This film involved three people in the development process, and the movie lasted five to fifteen minutes in duration. At the competition, there were several aspects being assessed by the judges, including story, cinematography , and audio.

Richard Farrel, the Director of “Made in Madness”, was proud and did not expect his film to be awarded in a prestigious film festival. During the making process, he and his other 20 crew members took twelve days for the pre-production, a day for the production, and a week for the post-production.

Richard revealed that his film told the phenomenon surrounding illegal cigarettes, which would endanger the consumers. This is because illegal cigarettes are commonly lacking of lab tests.

“It’s true that illegal cigarettes are affordable and almost have the same taste as the legal ones. However, we don’t really what’s inside of them or what they are made of for that matter. In addition, illegal cigarettes can also potentially destroy the economy of our country as they are also illegally imported,” he explained.

The Gempur Rokok Illegal Award also offered two other categories, namely, movie and poster. Moreover, it also featured several prominent and experienced judges, with one of them being Fanny Chotimab who directed a documentary entitled “U and I.”

On a separate occasion, Dr. Ruri Suko Basuki, M.Kom., the Head of the Film and Television Department at Udinus, expressed his pride in the accomplishments achieved by his students. He also hoped for other students to follow their footsteps and achieve many more achievements.

“We hereby congratulate our students for making a name for our campus in the field of cinematography. Hopefully, these students can strive for many more attainments and produce films with excellent quality,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Alex. Foto: Dok. FTV Udinus)
