Another gold medal was brought by a student from Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) for the Indonesian contingent at the 21stASEAN University Games (AUG) 2024. The gold medal was achieved by Dinda Putri Lestari in the Taekwondo sports branch, particularly in the -67kg Women’s Kyorugi category. She managed to earn this phenomenal feat on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024.

The sports event was held in the Samntha Kirda Building at Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Malang City, East Java. At the event, Dinda was among the female athletes who successfully accomplished a gold medal after defeating a Malaysian athlete.

Dinda Putri revealed that the accomplishment was a product of her athletic dedication to the Indonesian contingent. Furthermore, she hoped the accomplishment would motivate other Indonesian athletes to compete on an international level.

“My next target is to reach the gold medal and present my best athletic performance. Through dedication and enthusiasm, I’m sure that the Indonesian contingent is prepared to compete against other challenges at international events,” uttered the Management student.

For additional information, the Indonesian athletes at the 2024 AUG consisted of athletes who won the Regional Students’ Sports Week (Pomprov) and the National Students’ Sports Week (Pomnas). At the event, the Taekwondo sports branch housed two different primary categories, namely, martial arts showcasing and fighting. In other categories, the -57kg Class category was won by Megawati Tamesti Maheswari.

Dr. Kusni Ingsih, M.M., the Vice Chancellor III of Students’ Affairs, expressed her utmost pride for the excellent feat accomplished by Dinda Putri at an international event. Her success shows that Dinda has remarkable skills to compete with other international athletes.

“Being able to make a name for both the alma mater and the nation truly induces pride in both the campus and the country. We, as the academic community at Udinus, will appreciate students who secure accomplishments on both national and international levels,” he concluded.

Moreover, the Taekwondo sports branch was participated by nine countries within Southeast Asia, including Brunei, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, East Timor, and Indonesia. As a whole, athletes from the Central Java contingent, particularly Udinus, were able to gather five gold medals and two silver medals at the 2024 AUG.
