Pursuing a career in the arts and technology sectors is an everyday job done by Arief Hermanto, an alumnus of the Broadcasting Study Program at Universitas Dian Nuswantoro. Arief is currently working in the multimedia, filmmaking, and broadcasting fields.

Arief, formerly a member of the Broadcasting Student Association, has been working in the multimedia sector since 2007. Initially, he took a full-time job opportunity during his university days and became a part of the production department as the Control Room and Master Control, as well as the producer at TVKU. Later in 2015, he continued as a journalist videographer in the Department of News and Magazine at Trans7. The experiences he gathered from many places led him to become a professional, “This is because my current career path accommodates my interest in the arts and technology sectors. It is truly amazing to be able to inspire the public through positive media,” Arief, born on March 18th, 1989 in Yogyakarta, uttered.

Arief once worked in an edutech corporation called ‘Terampil’ which mainly focused on E-Learning activities. To this day, Arief is walking his career as a Video Director at Imajiwa Creative, a studio that engages in Video Producing, TVC Motion graphics, Branded Content, Events, and Broadcasts.

Arief said that his current career path required open-minded and fast-thinking individuals. Additionally, he added that working in the broadcasting sector was full of obstacles forcing him to come up with creative shows to stabilize the public’s interest in television. “The challenge is that we need to reform the current era of television so that it could adapt to the current development, the shift of audience habits, and the development of the distributing technology,” explained the owner of the @whoisayiph Instagram account.

Arief claimed that he once struggled to bend with communities but he managed to get by with his soft skills. He shared that soft skills were so crucial that he used them all the time throughout his career. “Initially, I was a passive introvert, but luckily, I found a film community at Udinus named Langkah Orang Langit. In the community, I learned how to be more open and friendly in conveying ideas, participating in organizational activities, and collaborating with new people,” Arief said.

He also encouraged his fellow alumni to always learn from various sources. “Expand your insight with various national and international references, do not forget to take notes if you see something interesting, and break it down into pieces. These methods may hone your analytics skills to produce more creative works,” he concluded. (Humas Udinus/Nuvia. Foto: Dok. Pribadi)
